Why should my organization consider SHIFT education?

With Technology First taking center stage in the long-term supports community, organizations and states want to know what this means, and how it can benefit them. SHIFT education answers these questions and provides standardized best practices and practical tools. For agencies and providers to be innovative and current, their leaders and staff must be equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to maximize the possibilities of technology. SHIFT’s educational platform and expertise help organizations and states adopt a true Technology First culture.

How many staff members from our organization should participate in SHIFT’s education? 

Organizations may enroll as many or as few people as they would like.  SHIFT does provide recommendations for the number of educated staff members that are needed for cultural transformation.  However, only organizations pursuing SHIFT accreditation are required to meet these minimum numbers of educated staff. 

Does SHIFT offer education and certifications for individual learners?

Yes, individual learners are encouraged to register for any of SHIFT’s education. A learner does not have to be affiliated with an organization. In addition to expanding one’s knowledge base, SHIFT education increases one’s marketability in the field. Add with live virtual learning events, opportunities to network with like-minded professionals, as well access to practical tools, earning a certification through SHIFT just makes sense.

What is the time commitment for completing SHIFT education?

Can we substitute a different person if an enrolled staff member leaves our organization?

Your organization can expect the following time commitment for each of SHIFT’s certifications.  Keep in mind that people learn at their own pace – some learners may complete the requirements more quickly while others will take longer. 

  • Enabling Technology Integration Specialist (ETIS) – Approx. 15 Hours

  • Enabling Technology Navigator (ETN) – Approx. 15 Hours

  • Enabling Technology Leadership (ETL) – Approx. 15 Hours

To support organizational transformation, we recommend that all certifications be completed within 90 days of the enrollment date. We have found this to support momentum and successful implementation. SHIFT also offers the Introduction to Technology First, a 2-hour virtual interactive training facilitated by SHIFT subject matter experts.

Yes, if the enrolled staff member has not progressed beyond the Orientation course of their learning plan (curriculum). However, replacement requests must be made within 6 months of the initial enrollment.
